About iExtract: Subtitle Extractor
Extract burned-in video subtitles to SRT/VTT and text from images with OCR.
Turn subtitles that are permanently visible in a video into editable subtitle files with iExtract. This video subtitle extractor uses on-device OCR to read burned-in or hardcoded subtitles from video frames and export them as timed SRT or VTT files. You can also extract text from photos and screenshots, then copy or save the recognized text as a TXT file.
EXTRACT HARDCODED SUBTITLES FROM VIDEO
Have a video with captions on screen but no separate subtitle file? Select a video, position the subtitle selection area over the visible text, and let iExtract recover the captions. Use the resulting subtitle file in a compatible video player or editor.
CONVERT VIDEO SUBTITLES TO SRT OR VTT
Save recognized captions with timestamps as SubRip (.srt) or WebVTT (.vtt) files. Repeated readings are grouped into subtitle cues. Find video subtitle exports in Download/IEXTRACT and open or share them from your subtitle library.
COPY TEXT FROM IMAGES AND SCREENSHOTS
Use image-to-text OCR to read printed words in photos or screenshots saved on your phone. Review the result, correct any recognition errors, copy text to your clipboard, or save it as a .txt file.
SELECT THE CAPTION AREA
Drag and resize the subtitle region on the video preview so the extractor focuses on the words you want. Choosing a clear, consistent caption area can improve recognition.
PROCESS MULTIPLE VIDEOS
Extract subtitles from one video or prepare a batch of up to 20 videos. Apply the same subtitle area, script selection, export format, and scan speed to the batch. Videos with captions in similar positions work best together.
CHOOSE YOUR WRITING SYSTEM
Select the script that matches your text: Latin, Arabic, Chinese/Japanese, Devanagari, Korean, Cyrillic, Bengali, or Thai. Arabic-script options include Arabic and Persian/Farsi; Devanagari covers languages such as Hindi. Results depend on the clarity of the source text.
ON-DEVICE TEXT RECOGNITION
Video frames and images are processed on your phone for text recognition instead of being uploaded for OCR. No account is required. Video extraction can continue in the background with a progress notification. The app contains ads, which may require an internet connection.
CONTROL SCAN SPEED
Choose Normal, Fast, or Super Fast video scanning to balance processing time and detail. Faster sampling can miss brief subtitles. Results also depend on text size, motion, video quality, and contrast, so review exported files before use.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
iExtract recognizes words already visible in video frames and images. It does not generate captions from speech, translate languages, or extract an existing selectable subtitle track from a video container. Video extraction depends on codec support on your device.
Whether you need a hardcoded subtitle extractor, a video-to-SRT workflow, or a simple image-to-text tool, iExtract helps turn visible text into files you can edit, reuse, or share.
