  Bigger up and down buttons, easier to hit. A tap on a bar far above your level now moves one step, so a slip of the finger cannot make the sound jump; tap the same bar again to go all the way. The app also tells you when another audio app is controlling the sound.

  Setting up is clearer. Before Android's list of apps opens, a short guide shows the icon and the switch to look for. Once you turn the switch on, the app comes back by itself. If the switch is still off when you return, the app says so and offers a second try and a help page.

  The dial now comes back exactly where you left it after the control restarts, also when your level was above the line. Over Bluetooth, a tap on a quiet bar lands on the bar you touched. A press on a volume button ends a mute made on the dial. Plus smaller fixes.
