Dear Diary Offline: Scriptum

Scriptum is a secret diary with a lock: a private, offline diary and journal app that needs no account. No server, and nothing leaves your phone unless you ask. Like the dear diary you kept as a kid, only with a lock that actually works. Write about your day, add a photo, track your mood, and keep it all in one private place.

A PRIVATE DIARY, NOT MERELY AN ENCRYPTED ONE

• No account. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to sign in to.

• No analytics and no trackers anywhere in the app.

• An offline diary: everything works with or without a connection.

• Most diary apps keep your writing on a server. This personal diary has no server to keep it on.

• A diary with a password or fingerprint lock: your face, your fingerprint or a PIN, with Scriptum Complete.

WRITE IT YOUR WAY

• A line or a thousand words: journaling as long or as short as the day needs.

• A photo journal: add a picture to remember the day by.

• A simple mood tracker: tap one of five faces for how the day felt, and see a month or a year of moods at a glance.

• Note where you were, when that is part of it.

• Missed a day? Open the calendar and write it whenever you like.

• Light or dark paper, to suit the hour.

• Stuck for words? A journal prompt is there if you want one.

• A gentle reminder at the time you choose, which eases off instead of nagging when you have been away.

ON THIS DAY

Your own page from six months, a year or more ago comes back on the day it was written, so you can see how far you have come.

FIND IT AGAIN YEARS LATER

• Search everything you have ever written in your diary.

• Every photo in one place, month by month, and every voice note too.

• A calendar of the days you wrote.

• Open any date and read it exactly as you left it.

KEEP IT, AND TAKE IT WITH YOU

• Your journal travels with your phone's own backup.

• Save the whole diary, words and photos together, as a single file only you hold, and bring it to a new phone.

• Coming from Day One or Daylio? Bring your entries with you, formatting and moods included.

SCRIPTUM COMPLETE

An optional upgrade, for when the free diary is not enough.

• Lock your secret diary behind your fingerprint, your face or a passcode.

• Shape a page with headings, bold, lists, quotes and checklists.

• Speak instead of typing, and have a rambling entry tidied into something you will want to reread.

• A voice diary: keep voice notes on a page, and hear the day again in your own voice.

• Up to ten photos on a page, arranged for you.

• Every sticker pack, and ink to sketch over the paper.

• Colour the whole app to suit you.

• Turn your diary into a printable book, typeset page by page.

WHAT PEOPLE USE IT FOR

A daily journal. A dear diary to talk to at the end of the day. A gratitude journal, for three good things before bed. A mood diary. A dream diary, written before the dream goes. A travel journal while the trip is still happening. A secret diary for the things you would not say out loud. Somewhere to put the thought that has been circling since Tuesday.

Scriptum Complete is a monthly or yearly subscription. The yearly plan starts with a free week for new subscribers.
