Every run is a gamble in four steps: head out, fight and loot, escape, cash in. Your bag fills up fast, and every extra minute you spend searching is another minute for the horde to close in. Play it safe or push your luck. Only what you carry out alive truly counts.

■ A DIFFERENT CITY EVERY TIME

Forget memorizing routes. Maps are pieced together from city blocks (dark warehouses, back alleys, treasure rooms, boss lairs) and reshuffled on every run, with over 100,000 possible layouts in a single stage. Whichever way you go, there is always a way out. You just have to live long enough to reach it.

■ ENEMIES THAT DON'T PLAY FAIR

Over 20 enemy types, each with its own way of killing you:

• Raiders scan the area, keep their distance and open fire the moment they spot you

• Dog packs circle you, barking... then lunge, one at a time

• Zombie hordes hear your gunshots and come pouring in from far off-screen

• Bloated zombies soak up dozens of bullets and keep coming to crush you

• Lashers stretch their arms across the room to strike from a distance

• And somewhere in the dark, the bosses are waiting

■ FEAR THE DARK

Step inside and the lights go out. Your flashlight shows only what is right in front of you. Everything else is footsteps in the dark and the flash of a muzzle you never saw coming. Gear up with night vision to see farther and wider, and turn the hunters into the hunted.

■ WHAT YOU LOOT IS WHO YOU BECOME

Found a rifle? Drag it into your slot and it's yours, right there, mid-run. Carry a primary, a secondary and a melee weapon and swap on the fly: blunt weapons, pistols, rifles, sniper rifles and shotguns, each with its own feel. Skins change your body and base stats. Accessories grant hidden special abilities. It all adds up to a single Combat Power number, so you always know exactly how much deadlier you've become.

■ COME BACK STRONGER

Make it back to the bunker and cash in. Sell your haul to the merchant, then spend it on attack, health and a bigger bag. Every stage you clear unlocks new upgrades. A run takes just a few minutes, but what you build in the bunker stays with you and pushes you deeper into the outbreak each time.

Portrait mode. Simple move-and-shoot controls. Perfect for a quick run on the bus, or for "just one more" at 2 a.m.
