Word files saved by WPS Office, LibreOffice or Google Docs now open as pages, with the page readout and Go to page, where Gander showed one long sheet. A Word file with a footer prints one sheet per page, not two. Tabs in a Word file reach their stops, footnotes are numbered through the document, and a file not set for different odd and even pages shows one header and footer on every page. A Graphviz graph saved as .dot or .gv opens as text.

On Android 9 and later, a PDF now opens on a phone whose WebView is too old for PDFs and can't be updated: Android's own renderer draws the pages, walled off from your files, without search or text selection. PDF thumbnails are drawn walled off too. Books, text files and Markdown in Arabic, Hebrew or another right-to-left script read right to left. A slide with no background is drawn on white, as PowerPoint does, and a Word table set to run left to right reads across.

EPUB books open in a reader of Gander's own, with the book's contents, a text size, search across the whole book, and the line you left off. A file of an unknown format opens as text when it is text. A double tap zooms a PDF, a Word page, a slide or a picture to twice its width, and the next one puts it back. Gander is offered in Open with and the share sheet for .xlsm, .xlsb, .js, .rb and .sql files.

Animated WebP and PNG pictures play, as GIFs do. The title bar scrolls out of sight as you scroll down a document, and comes back when you scroll up or reach the top. A presentation's bullets show as the arrows, squares and ticks they are, where some were empty boxes or the letter l, and the text after them lines up as it does in PowerPoint. Symbols set in Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 or Webdings show correctly in .doc, .odt and .rtf files.

Print a PDF or a Word file from the viewer's menu, through Android's own print screen. A PDF prints exactly as it is, and a Word, .odt or .rtf file prints the way Gander shows it. A file another app opens in Gander, such as a WhatsApp attachment, now gets a card of its own in your recent apps, so you can switch between the chat and the file.

A track keeps playing when the screen goes off, with play and pause on the lock screen. Presentations saved from Google Slides open, and slides keep their lines, their bold titles and their words whole. A large spreadsheet shows its first rows at once. A recent file or folder is removed by swiping it aside, with Undo. A CSV saved as UTF-8 keeps its accents, a PDF in night mode sits on black, and Verilog and VHDL files open as text.

Gander opens Word 97-2003, OpenDocument text and Rich Text documents, looks inside .zip files without unzipping them, and shows .stl 3D models you can turn with a finger. A PDF reopens at the page you left it on, and videos fill the screen. Script inside a document can no longer run, and other apps can no longer make Gander open its own files. Search covers every sheet of a workbook, and in night mode the bars around a PDF go dark with it.
