Satellite Timelapse Map

Purple Satellite is a satellite timelapse map that lets you scrub through real satellite images and watch Earth change over time.

Pick a place. Drag through the timeline. See coastlines shift, lakes rise and fall, mines expand, cities grow, forests change, farms cycle through seasons, and storms leave their mark.

Purple Satellite is built for people who want to see change directly, without setting up complicated map layers or digging through satellite data portals.

What you can do with Purple Satellite:

• Explore real satellite imagery on an interactive map

• Slide through time with a simple timeline control

• View recent and historical satellite images for places around the world

• Watch coastlines, beaches, islands and river mouths change

• Track water levels in lakes, reservoirs, wetlands and rivers

• See mines, quarries, tailings areas, roads and industrial sites evolve

• Follow urban growth, new development and changing land use

• Compare forests, burned areas, farms, fields and seasonal vegetation

• Search by place and jump straight to the area you care about

• Filter out cloudy, snowy or unusable images to get cleaner timelapses

• Use satellite imagery from public Earth observation sources such as Sentinel and Landsat

See change from space

Purple Satellite turns satellite imagery into something you can explore with your finger. Instead of opening a static map, you move through time and watch the landscape update.

That makes it useful for:

Coastlines and beaches

Watch sand bars, beaches, estuaries, deltas and barrier islands move over time. See erosion, accretion, storm impact and coastal construction from above.

Water levels

Track visible changes in reservoirs, lakes, rivers, wetlands and floodplains. See water advance, retreat and reshape the surrounding landscape.

Mines and industry

Follow open pit mines, oil sands sites, quarries, tailings areas, stockpiles, roads and industrial expansion through satellite imagery.

Cities and infrastructure

Watch urban growth, new roads, ports, airports, subdivisions, construction areas and changing land use.

Forests, fires and vegetation

See seasonal change, clearing, regrowth, wildfire scars, farms and green spaces from a satellite view.

Weather, snow and clouds

Filter out bad images when you want a cleaner timelapse, or keep them when cloud, snow or seasonal conditions matter.

Built for quick visual exploration

Purple Satellite is not a traditional GIS app and it is not a complicated remote sensing workstation. It is a fast visual satellite image viewer designed around one simple idea: time should be easy to explore.

Move the timeline and see the planet change.

Free and Pro

Purple Satellite includes a free version. Purple Satellite Pro unlocks additional visualization and filtering features, including high dynamic range satellite imagery and improved filtering for cleaner timelapses.
